FIVE local acts got nominated in this year's Voice Independent Music Awards (VIMA) after the result was announced on bitemymusic, the official website for South East Asia's indie performers.

VIMA Awards is the independent music awards of Southeast Asia countries comprising of Malaysia, Indonesia, Singapore and Brunei, with the inclusion of other foreign acts from outside South Seat Asia.

The awards started back in 2010 and was co-founded by Siva Zaphod Chandran, COO of Bite Media together with Meera Thuraivel, CEO of Bite Media.

According to bitemymusic, independent musicians from Indonesia, Malaysia, Singapore & Brunei, may submit their songs and music videos to vima2013@gmail.com.All musicians are also encouraged to join the VIMA 2013 Facebook group to catch up on all updates.

VIMA 2013 is organised and coordinated by Bite Media and Saintz & Sinnerz, an international marketing and branding company that also manages Bite My Music Global Awards, GAMA (Global African Music Awards), IndieGo Music Awards (South Asia Music Awards).

The main awards event will be scheduled to be held in February 2013.

New Year’s resolution - Zul Faden

What is your New Year’s resolution?
Share your plans for 2012 and get inspired by others..

I have so many plans for the coming new year.

1.I dream of working towards going international all the way.. expose my music.. And touch millions of hearts :)

2.I'll give a shot at acting.

3.I'll study music through a scholarship programme and aim to get a diploma so maybe one day I can teach "voice".

4.I'd like to remain active in singing(doing more gigs both in and outside of Brunei),writing,collaborating & recording new songs.

5.I'd like to do more image modelling.

6.One of my ultimate dreams / goals is to open a Performing Arts Center for our Bruneian youths.

7.Be more involved in charity work and help others in need.One in particular is a voluntary programme to help out abandoned elderlies.

8.Keep helping to shape & reshape Bruneian music and make more history.

9.Start working on another album (follow up to my debut album "Memori Cinta Zul Faden").

10.Go into branding through Zul Faden merchandises.

Zul Faden's album & website launch

IT WAS definitely a night to remember for Brunei's top local artist Zul Faden, formerly known as Zul F as he officially launched his latest album 'Memori Cinta' last Saturday at the Jerudong Park Mini Amphitheatre.

His latest album includes 10 songs written by Zul Faden himself, co-produced by Lily Chiam and Hans Anuar. Hans wrote the song 'Sepi' in which both Zul and Hans did a duet for the album.

According to Zul, this album is his official full length album with the previous being a single.

"I really enjoyed working together with Lily Chiam and Hans Anuar whom I both consider as my mentors," said Zul Faden.

He said that he hopes his new album would appeal to the masses and as of now are trying to promote the album not only locally but also to the international market such as in Japan and other regional countries.

"I want to go international so to get there I have to be versatile. It coincides with my interest too as I love to sing in a variety of foreign languages.

"And I've also picked up a few words in Japanese, Mandarin and also Tagalog along the way,"

When asked about his role as an artist, Zul explained that it entails a social obligation to bring out positive messages to the community.

"We must look after ourselves, the way we talk to people and more importantly, we must be humble and show respect," said Zul

An artist has to dream big, be disciplined and willing to work hard to get where they want to be, he enthused.

With his music career taking off, Zul Faden is also counting on the possibility of acting in the near future as he harbours an interest to act in soap operas and dramas.

"I've been approached in the past by a few RTB producers to do dramas...with Allah SWT's blessings if there's any offer to do acting, I'm very interested to play the role of a villain as it (interests me most)," he said.
